In 2015, the St. Thomas EDC launched what has become the most popular campaign for the organization since “25% More Life”. Since its inception, #stthomasproud has brought out an amazing amount of positivity in the community and has provided residents and businesses a vehicle with which to share their pride.
As a result of strong support from businesses in the community, we are pleased to announce that the first round of T-shirt sales for #stthomasproud Fridays will result in a donation of $750 to the United Way Elgin-St. Thomas. This would not be possible without the strong support from organizations like Wendy’s, Yurek Pharmacy, Gorman-Rupp Canada, Reith and Associates, the City of St. Thomas, the St. Thomas and District Chamber of Commerce and so many more.
The concept was simple – promote the idea that casual Fridays can be more and encourage businesses to allow employees to wear #stthomasproud shirts on Fridays, with a portion of the sales going to support the local United Way.
General Manager of the EDC, Sean Dyke said “This campaign continues to grow and gain momentum and we won’t stop now. I challenge all businesses in St. Thomas to join in this positive campaign, show your pride in the community and convert casual Fridays to #stthomasproud Fridays, all while supporting the many worthy causes that the United Way funds in our community.”
As this campaign continues to grow, the EDC will make more donations to the United Way.
Born out of negativity following the global economic downturn and since fueled by a resilient positivity, #stthomasproud has become commonplace on social media, sign boards and other marketing channels in the City and around the world. The recent wave of companies asking to participate in #stthomasproud Fridays has pushed the campaign forward and will no doubt continue to grow the awareness and pride in the community as a result.
